This week, a federal judge ruled on whether key portions of Alabama’s immigration law should stand. The judge ruled that certain portions cannot be enacted, included prohibiting undocumented foreign nationals from attending public colleges, and prohibiting concealing, harboring, transporting, etc. of undocumented aliens. However, other provisions were allowed to stand, including provisions that allow local police to inquire about detainees’ immigration status and that require public schools to verify students’ immigration status.
