As of Monday, April 21st our office has received the first H-1B receipt notices for the cap cases filed April 1. Our office has received relatively few receipt notices so far, and this is consistent with what other attorneys are reporting as well. In fact, some of our colleagues in other firms have not received any notices yet.
What does this mean for you?
It’s not time to panic yet! Remember, USCIS had 172,500 petitions to go through. Even though they only selected enough for the 85,000 H-1B slots available, that’s still a lot of petitions to work with. Last year we received receipts into May, and they received fewer petition last year (“only” 124,000). So if you have not received word on your H-1B petition being selected yet, don’t give up hope – we still have lots of good news coming our way!
Note: Premium processing will still begin only on April 28th, 2014 (for H-1B cap cases).
Chin up!
